Downloading Real Music Ringtones and Wallpapers from MyxerTones

Have you ever downloaded a ringtone only to discover that it really was a subscription to a service that will charge a monthly fee? Often, it pays off to be careful when accepting offers for free stuff. We tried out MyxerTones that didn't charge anything and didn't require a subscription. The service provides free ringtones and better yet, makes it possible to mix new ringtones from MP3 tracks.

MyxerTones lets you download ringtones to your phone, upload music you have on your PC to create new ringtones, download wallpapers, and copy pictures from the Internet to your phone. It is also possible to make your own music or pictures available and try to earn some money.

MyxerTones doesn't require you to install any extra application on your phone, making it compatible with most modern phones. If you want to give it a try, start from here:

1. Sign up for the service at: MyxerTones Web site.

2. You'll receive a verification code that you have to enter into the MyxerTones Web page.

3. Check your email inbox. Open the message received from the service and confirm your email address.

Before using the service, you should be aware that although most of the things provided by the service are free, you are responsible for data transmission costs. That is, when you click the download link in a text message, you may have to pay for mobile data service. It depends on the data (Internet) access plan that you have with your service provider. Additionally, because MyxerTones knows your phone number and email address, and the service collects information about your downloads and uploads, you are not completely anonymous. It's just something to think about if you intend to share copyrighted material.

We wanted to find out how easy it was to download ringtones and wallpapers from MyxerTones. In a nutshell, it was easy. The service worked smoothly without any hick-ups both on the PC and on the phone.

Downloading free ringtones

When you have logged in to MyxerTones, you can Explore ringtones that are available for download. If you like a ringtone and decide to send it to your phone, you'll receive a text message. Click the link to download the ringtone to your phone.

Don't forget to set the new tune as your default ringtone.

Creating new ringtones from songs stored on a PC

If you have saved your favorite songs on the PC, you can turn those melodies into ringtones in MyxerTones. When you are viewing the MyxerTones home page, click Make. Choose a track from your hard drive. The upload of an MP3 file can take a few minutes.

Once the upload is complete, you'll get a text message. Click the link to download the new ringtone.

By default, MyxerTones takes the beginning of the uploaded song for making a new ringtone. It is even more fun to create ringtones from any segment in a song. For instance, you can clip a drum solo or chorus segment from a song and let MyxerTones convert it into a ringtone. So far, this kind of feature has been only available in software products that can extract, mix, and cut songs from CDs.

Downloading pictures from the Internet to the phone

You can send pictures you spot on Web pages to your phone. First, you have to install a piece of free software to your PC. Then, when you are surfing the Internet and spot a picture you like, you can push the right mouse button to open your Internet browser menu. Select MyxerTones to send the picture to your phone.
