Practical advice on mobile devices

Wrist watch that can track grandma and automatically phone home / News 03.01.2009 04:49

Holux GPS Tracker 005
Wrist watch-style GPS devices, like the Suunto X9 or the Garmin Forerunner 305 are useful products for outdoors and sports people. They are intended to help the person who is wearing the device to navigate or monitor his or her physical activity. But what if someone back home would like to know where the person, who is wearing the watch, is roaming?

In that case, you need a product like the Holux GPS Tracker 005 that can phone home to let authorized people know its exact location. Here's how it works. Insert a SIM card into the wrist watch (the product has a built-in GSM phone). Hook up the GPS Tracker 005 to a USB port on your PC. USing the included PC software, specify if you want the tracking data via text messages to your mobile phone or posted on a Web page maintained by Holux. Give the watch to grandma. She can view time, speed and distance information, but the product is really not intended for navigation.

If you set the Holux GPS Tracker 005 to automatically send text messages to your phone, you might want to download ezSpot application to the phone for making it easier to follow grandma. If you set the device to post its location data to the Internet, logon to the web page and find out where grandma is traveling.
