Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 touch screen and keyboard powered by Windows Mobile 6.5 / 14.09.2009 04:39

Sony Ericsson Xperia X2
If you are absolutely sure you are not going to download any applications to your mobile phone, it really doesn't matter which software is powering your phone. But people who want to be able to extend their phones' functionality by installing add-on applications have to be aware of the operating system software that is running inside the device. Downloaded applications must be compatible with the operating system, be it Symbian, Windows Mobile, Android, Palm OS, or something else. Microsoft's Windows Mobile software has powered many smartphones, especially products targeted at businesspeople. The new Microsoft Windows Mobile release 6.5 operating system software running on the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 is likely to mostly attract the same kind of audience as earlier Windows Mobile devices.

Touch screen software has become a must-feature in every mobile device operating system. Release 6.5 is the first Windows Mobile software that provides touch screen functionality. Before this release, manufacturers had to create their own touch screen software, which Sony Ericsson did, among other manufacturers. That's one reason why the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 features customizable panels, kind of personalized home screens, that can be found only on the Xperia X1 and X2 devices. The user doesn't have to use the Windows Mobile 6.5 touch screen software on the X2 smartphone at all. In any case, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 is a high-end smartphone that comes with both touch screen and qwerty keyboard that slides below the screen when not in use.

The key features of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 are 8 megapixel camera, high-resolution (480x800 pixels) 3.2-inch touch screen, video recording, GPS receiver, possibility to automatically mark the geographical location of photos, Internet access via Wi-Fi hotspots, web browser, email, video player and MP3 music player. Here's an interesting detail; the Xperia X2 is a mobile phone with practically DVD resolution screen.

MicroSD memory card slot is a welcomed (instead of MemoryStick) feature, as well as Bluetooth, connector for displaying the screen to a TV, and USB. The Xperia X2 is a quad-band GSM phone and tri-band UMTS 3G phone.
