Only a couple of years ago, Sony Ericsson's Walkman mobile phones were among the hottest products in the industry. They were stylish, small, features were allright, and above all, they were fine portable MP3 players. Where are Walkman phones today? At eBay and other auction sites, because Sony Ericsson is promoting a new brand; Xperia. The latest device in the product range, the Xperia X10 takes the brand to the next level above Walkman phones.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is a touch screen smartphone designed for multimedia and social networking. The phone is built on Google Android software, making it compatible with a large number of Google services, like Maps, Talk, and Gmail. In addition, Sony Ericsson has built its own touch screen software that includes some innovative and useful applications. The touch screen menu system, known as UX, looks beautiful with icons and pictures flowing in and out of the screen.

Mediascape application lets users browse, search, and play back videos, photos and music. Timescape application brings popular social networking services, like Twitter and Facebook in one place for easy access to the latest updates. Also YouTube videos are accessible. Applications let the user push a new, curiously labeled Infinite-button to launch a special task. The Infinite-button will display all information, say, from a person whose photo is on the screen or whose message is displayed. See the video below for more information about the applications.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 hardware features make it a high-end smartphone. It comes with a large 4-inch touch sensitive display that has high (480x854 pixels) resolution. 8 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS are included as well as USB, Bluetooth and 3.5mm audio jack. MicroSD memory cards provide swappable storage space for media items. The dimensions of the unit are 119 x 63 x 13 mm. The Xperia X10 is a tri-band 3G phone for UMTS networks and quad-band GSM phone. High-speed HSDPA mobile data capability provides access to the Internet outside Wi-Fi hotspots.

The phone is avaiable in black and white. Whatever its price, the Xperia X10 won't be cheap when it is available in early 2010.
