Cool-er ebook reader is a compact device for reading what you have downloaded on your PC / 15.12.2009 05:34
Year 2009 has been the start year for companies that seriously intend to aim at the ebook reader device market. Dozens of start-up companies and some established brands have seen a new market quickly emerging around ebooks. Research companies, like Gartner, are predicting 2010 will be the breakthrough year for ereader devices into the mass market. Even though ebook reader devices may appear similar because of the same e-ink display component they are using, there are plenty of differences in features, ease-of-use, and price.
The Cool-er ebook reader device has been designed for people who tend to download ebooks on their PCs but want an ereader device where they can easily carry and read ebooks on the go. The Cool-er device is built on e-ink display technology that provides clear, sharp, and flicker-free text. The screen is readable in sun light, yet energy-efficient, allowing long battery life up to thousands of page reads. The black-and-white display on the Cool-er is 6 inches in size.
The Cool-er lets you view PDF, Epub, RTF, TXT, HTML, PRC, and FB2 documents and ebooks. It can also display JPG images and play MP3 audio. Copy-protected ebooks purchased in PDF or Epub format are compatible with the device. Ebooks are transferred to the Cool-er from a PC or Mac via USB cable. SD memory card slot provides additional storage space to the 1GB of in-built storage space. The slim tablet-like device is 183 x 117 x 11 mm in size.
There's no keyboard or touch screen on the device. Instead, it is controlled via an original-iPod-style round touch pad. The Apple iPod's round touch pad was a revelation at the time. If you liked it then, you'll like it now. But if you hated the touch pad, the same technology used on an ereader is unlikely to change your experience. Other ebook reader devices that have different input methods are, for instance, Sony Touch Edition, iRex touch screen ereader, Cybook Opus. The company behind the Cool-er is selling the product online, or check out the latest prices at Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk.
