Nimbuzz smartphone application for free and low-cost phone calls / 13.11.2009 04:55

Nimbuzz on iPhone
An advanced smartphone may cost up to 500-700 dollars or euros, but it can actually save a lot of money if its owner is savvy enough and knows how to use its advanced features. First, high-end smartphones come with Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing direct Internet access via hotspots. You don't have to pay your mobile network provider for Web and email access. Second, if you occasionally need to dial international numbers, you can bypass the expensive international billing altogether. The trick is to let the Internet carry your phone call practically anywhere in the world. You need a powerful smartphone that can run a Voip (Voice over the Internet) application. After the initial investment in the device, you win every time you make an overseas call because you only have to pay a fraction (if anything) for your calls.
Nimbuzz on Windows PC
Nimbuzz is a smartphone application that lets you make international phone calls to other Nimbuzz users for free or pay a small fee to reach ordinary telephone numbers on the other side of the world. Nimbuzz application connects your phone calls via the Internet, bypassing the traditional telephone network. That's Voip for you. Only if you dial a landline number or a mobile phone number, Nimbuzz has to connect the call to the traditional telephone network. In a sense, international phone calls become local calls because only the last mile from the local telephone switch to the destination number is relayed in the telephone network. In addition to the international calling feature (NimbuzzOut) you can call other Nimbuzz users who are logged in on their PCs, Macs or smartphones. Credits have to be purchased before making a call to an ordinary telephone number.

Nimbuzz also has an instant messaging feature, allowing its users to exchange messages for free. It can also connect to other messaging systems, like Skype, Facebook, Live Messenger, GoogleTalk, Twitter, Yahoo, and MySpace.

We have reviewed a number of smartphone applications, such as Fring, Skype, and Truphone that have been designed for the same task as Nimbuzz. Each application has its own strengths and weaknesses, so you may want to check out the reviews yourself.
